Greece praised for refusal to forbid flight of the Russian planes

The position of Athens, refused to forbid on request of the USA flights of the Russian planes with humanitarian cargo for Syria, testifies and to their deep understanding of a difficult humanitarian situation in the Arab republic, the representative declared the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova.

«We already made comments recently on a position of the authorities of Bulgaria, is groundless declared a ban of flight of the air space for the Russian planes with humanitarian cargo for the civilian population of Syria.

On this background the accurate and unambiguous position of the Greek party is allocated. Despite attempts from the outside to affect Athens the permission provided by them on August 31 to flight of air space of Greece was withdrawn, the Greek authorities did not give in to pressing, refused to revise the decision», – is told in the statement placed on a site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

«We appreciate adherence to principles and careful attitude of the Greek partners to our bilateral relations which always were based on respect of interests of each other and commitment to strict observance of norms of international law. The position of Athens testifies and to their deep understanding of a difficult humanitarian situation in Syria», – Zakharova declared.

On Monday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece confirmed that received from the USA request for closing of air space for the Russian aircraft delivering humanitarian assistance to Syria. According to the source in the Greek foreign policy department, now the inquiry is on consideration whereas earlier it was reported about refusal of the authorities to close air space of Athens.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria reported that closes flight for the Russian military transport planes following with humanitarian assistance to Syria, for the period from September 1 to September 24, 2015. This decision in Sofia proved fears concerning contents of transported cargoes.

In Sofia explained that the government of Bulgaria is ready to provide an air passage for flight of the Russian planes to Syria after cargo check.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov reported that in planes which Russia sends to Syria, there are military products on which deliveries contracts, and also humanitarian assistance were earlier signed.
