MiG 17PFU / SP Б

The SP-6 was basically a MiG-17PF fitted with an RP-1 Izumrud radar and four missile-launcher pylons under the wing. The air-to-air K-5 mis­sile (one per pylon) was renamed the RS-2U after its acceptance by the WS. Its semiactive radar seeker operated with the aircraft’s RP-1 radar. the nose, but on the assembly line this last cannon was removed. The MiG-17PFU thus became the first missile-only MiG fighter.
